Will the protesters in Spain do what those in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya did not?
Now that the nations of the west are also catching the contagion of the muslim/arab form of democracy which eschews the ballot box, let's see how keen their governments are going to be in encouraging "people power". What is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander. In some ways the pure form of democracy is the arab form - where people actually make their view known in the streets, and not a bunch of lazy and self-serving "representatives" sit in huddles doing deals to promote their parties and their own expenses accounts. Party-based democracy has shown not to truly represent the people's views but only produce corrupt politics and politicians who are so steeped in false consciousness that they will never, never be able to see the errors of their ways. They will produce speeches and tomes to defend their livelihood to the end. The only way for them to see the truth is when they are made to step outside their cozy world and profession. Maybe the Spanish Spring will spread to the rest of the EU, and even to the Americas. It's the People, stupid!
